Tax Incentives

Financial incentives are available to home owners who help the environment and make their homes more energy efficient by replacing older appliances and products with newer energy efficient products.

In addition to the tax credits and rebates offered, these products will typically help reduce your monthly electric bill and make your home more comfortable to live in. Some of the available financial incentives include:

Discounted electric bill: An Energy Efficient Home that meets the standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star program may qualify the homeowner for a 5% discount on their Progress Energy electric bill. Our verification can assure you your home meets these standards and qualifies for the 5% discount. Other power companies across North Carolina have similar programs.

Federal Tax Credits: The purchase of certain Energy Star products may provide you with a federal tax credit up to 30% of the product cost. Make sure you save your receipt and the Manufacture's Certification Statement to save money on your federal taxes. During a home energy audit, we can help you determine which products are cost effective to upgrade and qualify for the tax credit.

North Carolina Appliance Rebates: The NC Department of Commerce has over $8 million to offer in the form of rebates on older appliances that are replaced with qualified Energy Star appliances. The second phase of the rebate program begins on June 1, 2010. Please email us a request for a list of qualifying appliances.

Energy Rebates: Progress Energy provides rebates to their customers for energy efficient improvements made to their homes. We are proud to be a Progress Energy prequalified contractor and participate in their Home Energy Improvement Program. Our staff can help answer your questions regarding these rebates.

Sales Tax Holiday: In 2008, NC legislators developed a "sales tax holiday" in which all Energy Star appliances are sold tax free between the first Friday in November and the following Sunday. That's quite a chunk of money to save on on your appliances that will help you save on your power bill. Appliances include washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, refrigerators, central air conditioners and more.

Weatherization Assistance Program: The US Department of Energy provides funding for eligible low-income households to make improvements to their homes that will reduce their monthly electric bills. For eligible families, these weatherization improvements are made at no expense to the homeowner. Learn more here.
